The Jefferson County Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance allowing the proposed Dollar General store on Highway 25 E to provide 32 parking spaces, 19 of them narrowed from 10 feet to 9 feet.
A representative for JBM Investment Company told the board the retailer historically operates with fewer spaces and that 9‑foot spaces are commonly allowed in other municipalities. The applicant said the front row spaces closest to the store’s entrance would remain 10 by 20 feet.
Board members asked questions about measurements and on‑site circulation; the applicant said the narrower spaces are used to increase space efficiency while keeping primary spaces by the front door at full width. After discussion, a member moved to grant the requested variance; the motion was seconded and approved by the board.
Board members thanked staff for their work on the application. The site plan for the Dollar General had been on a prior agenda for public notice; commissioners noted the current action addressed only the requested parking and dimension variances.
