Vancouver School District seeks contracts for nursing and psychologist services to cover staffing gaps

Superintendent Brett Blochford told the Vancouver School District Committee of the Whole on Sept. 23 that the district will seek two service contracts to fill gaps in special education support.
Blochford said the district cannot hire enough licensed nursing staff and school psychologists to meet some students’ needs and therefore contracts out to supplement in-house services. The district proposes a contract with Team Select Home Care to provide licensed health-care providers (registered nurses or licensed practical nurses) to meet medical needs in schools; Blochford estimated the contract could cost approximately $125,000.
The second contract would be with Spring House Professionals LLC to provide supplemental school psychologist services. Blochford estimated that contract could cost up to $210,544.
Blochford presented both requests as contract approvals staff will recommend to the board at its October meeting. No formal motions or votes occurred at the Committee of the Whole. The proposals were described as supplemental services to cover needs the district cannot meet with current district hires.
