Trailer-storage and repair facility approved; commissioners cite road-blocking concerns at nearby sites

The commission approved a revised site plan for fleet equipment trailer storage and repair (project 253021) on New Miller Lane, allowing a single larger structure to replace two prior buildings; the site will provide storage, repairs and a sales office for over-the-road trailer equipment. Approval was conditioned on staff comments.

Commissioners noted a recurring issue of tractor trailers parked and unloading along Miller Lane (several speakers referenced unloading activity near the Barrett Manufacturing parcel, described colloquially as —CarMax unloading lane—). Staff and the applicant said the facility will be gated with a guard shack and internal stacking and queuing areas so vehicles will be able to pull on-site rather than stage on the public lane. The applicant said the site stores empty trailers only and described internal queuing spaces (two to three) and guard-staffed entry during business hours; the applicant said empty trailers, not loaded freight, will be stored and serviced.

Commissioners asked whether the site will be manned during all hours; the applicant said it would be operational during business hours and that the guard shack would be staffed when needed. Commissioners encouraged the sheriff's office and county staff to enforce road-blocking in the area and said the site design should minimize off-site queuing.
