The Carteret County Public Schools board approved several policy updates and related motions during its Sept. 2 meeting, with votes on bus-route policy and three additional policies.
Board members unanimously approved a motion for policy 6.321 (bus routes). A second for that motion was recorded as Miss Wheatley; the mover on the record was not specified in the meeting transcript. The board then approved three other policies together: Policy 23.10 (Public participation at board meetings), Policy 50.15 (Volunteers) and Policy 7.600 (numbering as presented in packet), with a motion by Miss Kurzich and a second by Mister White. A board presenter said the packet included more than 20 policies because the North Carolina School Boards Association’s spring 2025 update and a special packet of time-sensitive items had been provided to the district.
On Policy 23.10, the administration revised the language regarding the public’s request to place items on the agenda, restoring a requirement that such requests be submitted 10 days before a board meeting. The presenter said that change is intended to give administration time to address requests and is not a restriction on the public-comment period itself.
Board members also approved earlier temporary revisions to the code of conduct and Policy 50.15 (Volunteers) so administration could implement changes before the school year started; the presenter noted those were approved on an interim basis.
Procedural items also passed earlier in the meeting: the board approved the meeting agenda (motion by Miss Chadwick; second by Miss Kurzich) and the consent agenda (motion by Miss Wheatley; second by Mister Chambers). All votes reported in the transcript were recorded as “all in favor.”
No recorded roll-call vote tallies were given in the transcript; the meeting minutes should be consulted for the official vote record and any minority or dissenting votes not captured in the public audio.
The board’s next regular meeting will be Oct. 7 at 6 p.m.
