Playground turf finishing, Tanya Engle memorial sign and dedication planned for October

The township’s turf contractor is finishing the artificial turf surface this week; staff explained the mound required extra cutting and seaming and that final inspection by the township’s insurer will follow turf completion. The fence company has been notified to schedule fence installation once the turf passes inspection.
A memorial sign for the Tanya Engle Memorial Playground is being finalized and will be paid for with a private donation, township staff said. Staff proposed holding a playground dedication on a Saturday in mid-October; a final date will be announced. Memorial trees are scheduled for planting in late October, along with previously delayed plantings at the north end of the playground that were held out during construction.
Staff also said drought-stressed trees and shrubs around township parks had been addressed and that crews installed a sunshade over a drinking fountain funded by a private donor.
No final opening date was recorded; trustees and staff expressed hope the park will be open by next year’s community events.
