Fire department open house praised; department to spend CSX grant and earlier $1,000 award

Morgan Township's fire department reported a well-attended open house on Sept. 20, and trustees approved spending from two small grants to equip firefighters.
A fire-department representative said Captain Yon “did an outstanding job” organizing the open house and described turnout as “well attended.” Trustees and attendees praised department volunteers and visiting participants for demonstrations and activities.
On the funding side, the department was awarded a $1,000 grant from Butler Bridal Community Connections earmarked for helmet lights; the representative said the department will submit for reimbursement once purchases are made. Separately, trustees accepted a $2,500 award from CSX Transportation into a newly created Fund 29-16 and approved a purchase order to GME Supply Company for rope-rescue equipment, using $2,500 from the CSX fund and $6.24 from Fund 21-11 to fully expend the award and close the grant account.
Township staff explained the ordering was timed so the grant money could be spent and the fund closed quickly; staff said the items would be ordered the next day after approval.
No requests for additional county or state matching funds were discussed at the meeting.
