Wyoming Department of Education: several Natrona County schools show notable improvement in state accountability ratings

The Natrona County School District #1 board was presented with a Wyoming Department of Education release noting measurable gains in school performance across the district. The superintendent read the WDE statement to trustees as part of the academic steering report.

The WDE release cited by the superintendent said the district “made significant gains in school performance,” highlighting that Pine View Elementary moved from not meeting expectations to exceeding, Summit Elementary moved from partially meeting to exceeding within three years, and Midwest K‑12 moved from not meeting to meeting. The superintendent and trustees reported summary statistics: 15 schools increased their scores, 6 remained the same, and 6 declined; three schools were categorized as “exceeding,” 10 as “meeting,” seven as “partially meeting,” and seven as “not meeting.” The superintendent noted that Summit achieved a perfect score.

Trustees at the academic steering meeting described school-level practices tied to improvement, including focused leadership, use of professional learning communities, and school-specific interventions. Principals from Summit, Evansville and Pine View described strategies in brief remarks to the committee, which trustees said had taken more time than planned.

Board members welcomed the progress and said further work remains; trustees emphasized the role of school leadership and staff and flagged schools that were close to the next performance threshold. The WDE release cited at the meeting was dated Aug. 28 and will be included with district communications about school accountability.

No policy or funding action was taken at the meeting on the basis of the WDE release; trustees said the report was informational and part of ongoing school improvement oversight.
