Avon approves interlocal agreement sending town ordinance cases to Brownsburg court

The Avon Town Council on Sept. 11 approved Resolution 2025-26, an interlocal agreement delegating hearing of Avon municipal ordinance cases to the Town of Brownsburg's court.
Town staff said Hendricks County judges had reassigned some municipal cases to town courts within the county, and Brownsburg agreed to accept Avon's cases. Under the interlocal agreement, Brownsburg will operate the court, collect filing fees and fund day-to-day court operations. Avon will not be asked to contribute operating dollars; Avon will continue to supply its own prosecuting attorney when necessary.
Councilors asked whether Brownsburg would keep court costs charged to defendants; staff confirmed that filing fees and case costs would be retained by Brownsburg. Town attorney and staff reviewed the arrangement with Brownsburg and recommended approval. The Brownsburg town council had already approved the agreement.
The council approved the interlocal agreement by roll-call vote; councilors Jason Puckett, Don Loudon, Greg Zuzin, Bill Holland and Robert Pope voted in favor.
Ending: With council approval, Brownsburg will begin handling Avon's municipal ordinance cases under the terms of the interlocal agreement; Avon will continue to prosecute cases and supply needed legal services.
