Avon council awards $25,960 contract to fence and expand community garden

The Avon Town Council on Sept. 11 approved a parks department request to install commercial-grade fencing and expand the town's community garden west of Town Hall Park.
Shelby Pride, the town's parks and recreation director, told the council the small community garden established in 2024 was successful and had a wait list. Staff had installed a temporary fence that deer breached; they solicited four quotes and received two bids. The lowest responsive quote was from Fence Wizards for $25,960. Pride said the bid provides commercial posts set in concrete, keyed access, a two-year warranty and work to expand the garden footprint.
Pride asked the council to award the contract and authorized the clerk-treasurer to process payment; she said available funds include approximately $63,000 in programs, $50,000 in contractual and $90,000 in equipment budgets. "It was extremely successful," Pride said of the garden. "We would like to expand it, and we built a fence around it, and it did not last. A deer still ran into the top of it and knocked some of it over."
Councilor [name recorded in roll call] moved to award the quote to Fence Wizards for $25,960 and to authorize the clerk-treasurer to make payment; a second was recorded and the resolution passed on roll call with unanimous affirmative votes from Councilors Jason Puckett, Don Loudon, Greg Zuzin, Bill Holland and Robert Pope.
Ending: Parks staff will schedule installation after contract execution and said the fence will include keyed access for community-garden members.
