Council shares community updates: 9/11 events, fire-station open houses, meeting schedule and candidate night

During the Sept. 23 Clearfield City Council meeting staff and council members provided a series of community and calendar updates.
The mayor and council recapped recent events marking 9/11 and POW/MIA remembrance activities that took place at Hill Air Force Base and elsewhere. Council Member Petersen noted community outreach and a youth conference spotlighting Clearfield.
Fire Department updates included two public open houses: Station 42 on Sept. 29 and Station 41 on Oct. 1 (Station 41 is in West Point). Council members also said the department conducted internal interviews to fill a captain/battalion chief position following the retirement of an employee named Weeks; three internal applicants were interviewed.
Staff outlined upcoming meeting schedules: meet-the-candidate night (league of women voters-sponsored) with a foyer meet-and-greet at 6:30 p.m. and a question period at 7:00 p.m.; work and policy sessions planned for Oct. 7 and Oct. 14, and tentative scheduling notes for late October and November where regular meetings may be affected by election night and Veterans Day.
Council then moved the public meeting into a closed session to discuss pending or imminent litigation.
