Davis County West Nile detections and mosquito district tax proposal flagged at Clearfield council

At its Sept. 23 meeting, the Clearfield City Council received a report about West Nile activity and an upcoming funding proposal from the Mosquito Abatement District.
Council Member Worth told the council the district has detected West Nile–positive mosquito pools in every city in Davis County and reported roughly 20 cases and three deaths in the county since the last update, wording presented as the council member27s summary of district information. Worth urged residents to use repellent, wear long sleeves when mosquitoes are active and limit outdoor exposure when possible.
Worth also said the district plans to seek a property-tax increase to raise an additional $1,000,000 for construction of a new chemical storage facility; a public hearing on that proposal is scheduled for Dec. 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the mosquito district office in Kaysville, she said. The district reported the existing facility, built about 27 years ago, does not meet current needs given county growth and the scale of chemical quantities needed to treat marsh areas.
The council did not take formal action on the district proposal during the meeting; members asked for the Mosquito Abatement District to present details at a future council agenda, according to the meeting audio.
