The North Pocono School District reported facility upgrades completed over the summer, including replacement of stadium lighting, roof coatings and preparatory work for planned solar installations.
Mr. Matichka, the district's director of buildings and grounds, told the board that custodial and maintenance staff performed heavy summer work across the district's five buildings on three campuses. "A lot of residents ... don't realize the progress that goes on throughout the summer," Matichka said, noting detailed cleaning and floor maintenance. He specified that the district used "167 5-gallon buckets of wax this year throughout the district."
Matichka described a major stadium upgrade: the district replaced the previous system with "state of the art Musco LED lighting," updated underground wiring that he described as "1960s vintage," and replaced light heads and poles. He said the lighting system comes with a 30-year warranty and is monitored remotely by the vendor.
On roofing, Matichka said the MPI roof received a 30-year warranty overlay system and that the roofing work "brought our roofs up to code" ahead of planned solar installations. The district plans to install solar on several buildings, with a target of 2026. Matichka said roof coatings were completed before solar so panels would be installed on long-lived roof systems.
Matichka also noted winter preparation steps: plow trucks are being readied and salt has been ordered to support the district during winter operations.
The board did not take additional action on the projects at the meeting; several procurement-related motions elsewhere on the agenda authorized the business office to seek quotes or advertise competitive bids for services related to winter operations and fuel.
