LDRC approves agricultural-code updates to accommodate solar facilities and larger aircraft hangars

The Land Development Regulation Commission voted to approve amendments to Section 4.2.2 of the Marion County Land Development Code that update agricultural classification standards to reflect recent state statutes and local requests.
Planner Chris Rising presented the staff recommendation, saying the amendments respond both to Florida statutory requirements for solar energy facilities and to requests relating to accessory aircraft hangars in flying communities. "The first adjustment is to reference for the accessory use aircraft hangars in the approved flying communities and increasing their allowable height up to 50 feet," Rising said, noting hangars must accommodate varying aircraft sizes. He also said the proposed changes provide statutory-aligned setback and siting standards for solar facilities.
The commission opened the item for public comment; none was offered. A motion to approve the amendments "as presented" passed without recorded opposition. Staff said the changes follow LDRC workshop guidance and are intended to align local agricultural land-use requirements with state law and accommodate community-specific accessory uses.
