City Manager Britney told the City of Satellite Beach City Council on Sept. 16 that Police Chief Jeff Pearson formally announced his retirement effective Oct. 31. Pearson has served the city for 38 years, including 14 years as chief, the manager said.
"After 38 years of dedicated service to the city of Satellite Beach, 14 of those as the chief of police, [Pearson] has made a lasting impact on our community," City Manager Britney said during the city manager's report. The manager said Chief Pearson plans to use accrued leave during his final month with the city and recently celebrated the arrival of a new grandchild.
Deputy Chief Brad Hodge has been appointed interim chief of police for the transition period, the manager said. Council members acknowledged Pearson's service and congratulated him on his retirement during council comments.
The city manager said a formal celebration is planned; council members noted Pearson's long tenure and community contributions.
