Select Board accepts gifts, memorial benches, approves one‑day liquor license and issues commendation

The Town of Danvers Select Board on Oct. 7 approved several routine items and issued a commendation.
Gifts and donations: The board voted to accept a donation of slightly more than $12,000 from the Massachusetts Government Information Systems Association to the town’s IT department to support regional IT work, cybersecurity and the North Shore IT Collaborative. IT staffer Colby Cousins told the board the funds came from a dissolved regional association and that Danvers was chosen to receive the money because of the town’s work with the North Shore IT Collaborative. The motion to accept the gift was made and seconded and carried with the board answering "Aye."
The board also voted to accept a $3,800 donation to fund two memorial benches at Endicott Park, to be dedicated in memory of listed residents. Chris Sanborn, director of natural resources, requested acceptance; the board voted to accept the donation and to send letters of thanks.
One‑day liquor license: The board approved a one‑day wine and malt license for Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical School for a musical bingo fundraising event scheduled for Oct. 17 at Alumni Hall, a 21‑and‑over fundraiser for the school’s DECA club. Jill Sawyer, event coordinator, said the school has used one‑day licenses this year and does not anticipate additional events requiring alcohol licenses at this time. The application was accepted and the motion carried.
Commendation: The board voted to send a letter of commendation to organizers of the 2025 President’s Cup Taekwondo championship being hosted in Danvers Oct. 11. The commendation recognizes organizers for bringing the first U.S. edition of the Presidents Cup to Danvers and for fostering international sports and cultural exchange.
Procedural votes: The board approved minutes for the Sept. 23 and Sept. 25 meetings, and it voted to table agenda items 7 (town meeting review committee recommendations) and 10 (town manager goals) to a future meeting.
