The proclamation, read by Houston County Commission Chairman Brandon Shoop, highlights the Wiregrass Area Food Bank’s distribution of food in the county. “I, Brandon Shoop, Houston County Commission Chairman, do hereby proclaim September as Hunger Action Month and urge the citizens of Houston County to help fight hunger in our community by supporting the Wiregrass Area Food Bank,” Shoop read as part of the proclamation.
The proclamation cites the food bank’s recent activity, saying it distributed 1,351,210 pounds of food last year for Houston County’s 54 participating agencies and provided an estimated 1,055,633 meals to county residents.
