Ambridge board approves $9,000 fire-alarm replacement and authorizes donated demolition of quarterback club as bleacher removal begins

The Ambridge Area School District Board of School Directors on Aug. 20 approved a $9,000 proposal from Johnson Controls to replace the fire alarm control panel at State Street Elementary and authorized donation-funded demolition of the quarterback club building on the high school visitor side.

Board members said the new fire alarm panel will be procured through the Pennsylvania COSTARS contract. Mrs. Perriconia, presenting buildings and grounds items, read the demolition recommendation and said, “The demolition will cost $0 to the district and to be performed without further remuneration by Tom Sipes Demolition as a donation subject to agreement finalization.” The vote to adopt buildings-and-grounds items carried on a roll call vote.

Why it matters: district officials said the State Street panel has produced recurring false alarms and vendors recommended replacing the control unit to prevent future disruptions and 9-1-1 contacts.
