Capital improvement committee reports high school demolition, HVAC work and playground timeline

At an Aug. 26 Capital Improvement Committee meeting summarized for the Interboro School District Board on Sept. 17, committee member Mr. Evans reported substantial summer demolition at the high school and ongoing work to integrate new mechanical and electrical systems.

Evans said demolition over the summer expanded the theater, removed the old cafeteria and allowed installation of new wall, mechanical and electrical systems. “We wanted to get most of the demolition done over the summer break to reduce the amount of noise and dirt,” he said, and thanked district facilities staff and administrators for their efforts.

Evans said the district is “wrestling with some of the HVAC systems in the old part of the building” as staff work to sync older systems with new equipment. He said Mr. Galloway and facilities staff have been working since August to address those issues.

The committee also reported conversions of former administrative offices and the boardroom into classrooms to expand three‑year‑old (3K) capacity, and that a new early learning center and renovated courtyards are close to ready for occupancy.

Evans said new playground equipment is scheduled to arrive this fall. He added that contracting, licensing and permitting for a multipurpose turf field at the high school are in progress and that signage work is underway.

The committee’s mini report ran about an hour and concluded without a board motion in the committee summary; later in the board meeting the full board approved capital improvement items as part of the consent agenda.

The report did not include specific contract amounts or a final construction schedule for the remaining interior HVAC work; committee members said those details remain in active work with facilities staff.
