Board approves extracurricular clubs for 2025–26; district tightens finance controls for sponsors

The West Oso ISD board approved the district’s list of non‑UIL extracurricular clubs and school‑sponsored activities for the 2025–26 school year and heard a report on related financial controls for sponsors.

Miss Moore presented the list of clubs and explained that some activities occur during a "power hour" at the high school — a block used for required tutoring, remediation or club activity — while other clubs meet before or after school. The list included new or continuing offerings at elementary, junior-high and high-school levels; the board heard that the district had added a national technical honor society and planned a broadcasting/announcements class supported by the Education Foundation.

Trustees and staff discussed student participation, how power‑hour scheduling works and options for giving students time to complete make‑up work or extra‑curricular involvement. Trustees asked for sample schedules and attendance rosters to see how students use the period; staff offered to provide power‑hour schedules and club rosters for trustees who requested them.

The board also heard that district finance staff have been meeting individually with club sponsors to reinforce rules: sponsors have been given receipt books, required to sign an affidavit acknowledging rules and will face consequences for noncompliance. Staff reiterated a prohibition on using Cash App and similar personal payment platforms to collect funds. The district’s Education Foundation was also referenced as an active grant and fundraising partner ready to work with campuses.

The board approved the extracurricular list by vote; sponsors will proceed under the district’s updated financial controls.
