Board appoints Trevor Koski as Nevada County Counsel, approves four-year employment agreement

The Nevada County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 9 appointed Assistant County Counsel Trevor Koski as the county's next County Counsel and approved a four-year employment agreement that begins Dec. 21, 2025 and runs through Dec. 20, 2029.
Staff described a multi-step selection that included an ad hoc task force review, a 360-degree assessment of Koski's leadership and legal work, and closed-session interviews. Susan Cadera, interim Human Resources director, told the board Koski met the job's minimum qualifications (J.D., active California Bar membership, and at least six years of civil law experience). She noted his prior work for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Contra Costa County Counsel's office, the San Francisco City Attorney's office and five years as Nevada County's assistant County Counsel.
Koski thanked the board, praised outgoing County Counsel Kit Elliott and said he looks forward to serving the county. The board adopted the employment agreement by unanimous vote.
The appointment starts a transition period while Elliott completes service; the county said staff will manage a formal onboarding and transition plan to ensure continuity of legal services.
