West Oso ISD to launch Pathology/TripSpark bus-tracking system; student ID cards to be issued Oct. 1

West Oso ISD staff told the board they will roll out a new transportation-management system identified in the meeting as Pathology (noted as merged with TripSpark) to improve routing, real‑time bus tracking and parent notification.

District staff described two core pieces: a routing and scheduling platform for transportation staff and a student-card system that riders will scan when boarding and leaving buses. Denise, a transportation staff member, said cards will be assigned and reused when students graduate or leave; she described a brief pilot and expected "bugs" as staff refine stop assignments after rides begin. Staff said the system updates location data about every 10 seconds and allows transportation staff to see bus positions, speeds and basic vehicle alerts such as low fuel.

Miss Mendez, who presented the item, told trustees the district would begin issuing cards and assigning students to stops so a full implementation was expected by Oct. 1. She said some parents had already registered in the system and that the district planned stations at open houses (Oct. 8–9, per the presenters) and social‑media outreach to help families create credentials so parents can track their own child's tag in the app.

Denise described technical details observed during pilots: the platform uses Google Maps for navigation, and the district is testing card scanning and trip exchange points (for example when routes meet and students transfer). The presenters said the system can show bus fuel or vehicle alerts, and will allow parents to see whether their child scanned on or off a bus; parents can only view their child, not other students. The presenters estimated the system would reduce parent and administrator stress by providing real‑time confirmation when students board or leave buses.

Board discussion covered training, card distribution logistics and how staff will handle families who have not yet registered. Trustees asked whether parents would be able to register before Oct. 1; staff said some already had and that they were pushing credentials through ParentSquare and social media and planned help stations at upcoming open houses.

Trustees did not take a vote on this informational item. Staff requested board support and shared a tentative date for district‑wide use of Oct. 1.
