Substitute teacher urges update to suicide-prevention training modules

At the Manheim Township School Board meeting, substitute teacher Celaya Hintz told the board that required suicide-prevention training assigned to substitutes contained dated information and an outdated hotline number.
Hintz said the training consisted of eight modules, required for substitutes and due Sept. 12; she completed them on that deadline and found some data in the modules dated to 2006. She said she contacted the district’s ESS director and was directed to another contact, then was directed to another contact, but had not received follow-up. Hintz told the board she was concerned that substitutes who do not regularly build rapport with students might not receive up-to-date guidance.
A board member said the district would follow up with Hintz on her concern.
The comment was made during the public-comment portion of the meeting; no formal board action was taken during the meeting on the training content.
