Mill Creek Education Foundation announces new funds, grants and upcoming fundraising events

The Mill Creek Education Foundation reported new funds, recent grant awards and upcoming fundraising activities during the Mill Creek Township School Board meeting on Sept. 22.
MEF trustees established two new funds: AJ’s Heart Champions Fund, created in memory of Casey Weary (McDowell class of 2010), and a McDowell class of 1985 fund formed from reunion proceeds. The AJ fund’s stated purposes are awareness and education about blood-clotting conditions, support for the McDowell varsity football program and scholarships or teacher/student needs; MEF announced two fundraisers to support the fund, including a dog walk at Frontier Park on Oct. 4 and a national Arby’s campaign that will direct corporate support to selected nonprofits.
MEF trustees approved two grants in the August board meeting that were reported to the board on Sept. 22: a McDowell High School proposal to purchase hands-on resources for high school accounting (interactive materials and scaffolded lesson plans with lifetime updates), and a Tracy Elementary School grant to acquire compact foldable treadmills and under‑desk ellipticals to support student wellness. MEF said the wellness equipment will first be introduced to autistic and emotional-support students and then made available more broadly.
MEF also reported the MEF 3 Humble Fund support for an in-service presentation by nationally known speaker Molly Kennedy and noted backpack donations and an ongoing EITC (Educational Improvement Tax Credit) solicitor notice explaining how Pennsylvania taxpayers can direct eligible tax credit contributions to the MEF. Vendor applications for the MEF Schoolhouse Craft Festival, to be held at McDowell Intermediate/High School in December, are due Sept. 30.
MEF encouraged teachers to apply for Inspiration for Instruction grants through Oct. 1 and reminded the board that MEF grant applications for the next round are due Dec. 1.
