Council Rock presents full-day kindergarten curriculum documents and plans Atlas rollout

Council Rock School District officials provided the Education Committee with an overview of the planned course documents for the new full-day kindergarten curriculum and outlined a timeline for public access through the district's Atlas curriculum-management system.
"Chapter 4 guidelines define planned instruction and what planned instruction is," said Tammy Gary, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, explaining that Pennsylvania's Chapter 4 requirements form the legal "floor" for curriculum and that the district's planned course documents show how the district aligns instruction, assessments and instructional time to those standards.
Gary described the planned-course structure: standards, course description, objectives and scope-and-sequence units, instructional strategies, assessment types, estimated instructional time and listed resources (including ISBNs where applicable). She said the district recently purchased Atlas for curriculum management; the unit-level scope-and-sequence content will be uploaded to Atlas but the public portal add-on was not purchased this year. Gary said the district will seek board approval for documents as required and that the public-facing Atlas portal is a near-term goal to increase transparency and allow translation of materials.
Staff explained how the kindergarten documents differ from older-grade materials because early-learning standards are developmentally appropriate and focus heavily on foundational reading skills (K'2). Gary noted the district's intent to align assessments to standards and provide parents with linked resources.
The committee asked when the rest of the K'12 scope-and-sequence units will be available; Gary said a two-page planned-course summary for all courses is already on the district website and the unit-level content will be phased into Atlas as work completes. Administration said board approval will be sought for the kindergarten planned-course documents before they are fully public on Atlas.
Committee members praised the transparency goals and asked staff to ensure materials are easily translatable and accessible for families; technology staff recommended publishing native website pages rather than PDFs so translation tools operate correctly.
