City staff told the Historic Review Commission on Sept. 8 that the city selected Clio Consulting to prepare a National Register nomination for City Hall and that initial research work has begun.
The nomination matters because listing City Hall on the National Register would document its architectural significance and could enable preservation incentives and public recognition.
Staff said Clio Consulting’s principal, Angelique Bamberg, visited Erie this week to begin research and that the team interviewed John Evans, a local architect who worked on the building when he was with the firm Nelson, Goldberg and Haidt. Staff noted Bamberg previously prepared a successful nomination for the Packet Building and that Clio will submit an initial deliverable in September as part of the certified local government grant schedule.
Commissioners said the interviews and archival research are off to a strong start. Staff reminded the commission of contract milestones and said the initial report will guide the drafting of the National Register nomination for City Hall.
