Peggy, a campground organizer who said she runs an annual fundraiser at the Sunbury Airport Campground, told commissioners the event draws roughly 300 participants who ride golf carts to stops and contribute to donation jugs. “We began donating to the VA grama emergency fund at least 10 years ago,” Peggy said, adding that the group wanted donations to remain local so proceeds directly support veterans in the county.
Peggy said the $7,257 check came from this summer’s event and that, based on a three‑year tally she performed back to Feb. 2023, the campground’s efforts have contributed $20,045 to the fund since that date. She described uses reported back to donors as filling oil tanks, assisting with funeral expenses and helping with housing for veterans.
The commissioners accepted the donation during a brief presentation; the county did not propose any formal action tied to the check during the meeting.
