County roads update: shoulder work, pipe repairs and safety grant application

Cerro Gordo County staff reported active road maintenance work this week and next, including addressing drop-offs at shoulders, resetting pipe covers and ongoing grading and base cleaning ahead of winter.
Brandon told the board crews are working on shoulder drop-offs and that both the Clear Lake and Mason City shops have multiple large pipe covers that need to be reset or repaired. "A bunch of those this week and next week," he said, adding crews are continuing grading, base cleaning and tile repair to prepare roads for winter and to prevent undercutting in spring.
Staff discussed safety funding and guardrail work: the county has submitted an application related to Plymouth and expects to find out in December whether it won the funding round. On contractor availability for shoulder work, Brandon said it can take up to a month for shoulder subcontractors to arrive and that availability is a common constraint.
The board approved the county management report as presented.
