Klamath County public works and planning staff described a multi-decade discrepancy between the county’s platted Mount Lakey Cemetery map and the burial plan cemetery caretakers have been using. Public Works surveyor Emily Morris told the board the platted map differs from where people are actually buried in long-used sections of the cemetery and that correcting the plat is the cleanest way to align county records with on-the-ground burials.
Because the Mount Lakey Cemetery District has limited funds, staff proposed waiving the county surveyor fee of $2,590 and reducing the planning review fee from $1,750 to $200 to cover only required noticing costs. "The county surveyor's fee would be $2,590 that I'm proposing to waive entirely. The planning fee would be $1,750, and we're asking to reduce that to $200," Morris told the board.
A motion to waive and reduce the fees was moved and seconded. After brief comments there was a voice vote; staff recorded the motion as passing. The board directed staff to process the fee waiver and reduced fee so the district can file a corrected plat and resolve the discrepancy.
