The Allegany County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 21 ratified the seventh round of emergency procurements tied to flood response in the Georges Creek region, approving about $692,000 in contracts and purchases, county staff said.
Dan DeWitt, who presented the procurements, told commissioners "we're very near the end of our emergency procurement window" as crews finish road and stream repairs. DeWitt said the procurements brought 13 additional items to the board in the previous two weeks and that the county has been able to involve many local contractors to speed repairs.
Administrator Jason Bennett and commissioners said the cumulative county spending during the emergency response is now just under $3 million. DeWitt said one more package of emergency procurements is expected to come before the commissioners on Sept. 18, which will mark the end of the emergency procurement window established by a continuing resolution passed in May.
Commissioners moved and seconded approval of the agenda item to ratify the procurement batch; the public motion record shows the item was approved in open session.
DeWitt said the work aims not only to clean up damage from recent floods but also to make improvements that could reduce future flooding severity in the Georges Creek area.
