Zoning administrator approves temporary hardship dwelling (RV) for caregiver support in Auburn

The Zoning Administrator on Sept. 18 approved a minor use permit allowing a temporary hardship dwelling — a roughly 168-square-foot recreational vehicle — to be parked on a 0.17-acre parcel at 833 Sierra View Circle in unincorporated Auburn to provide 24-hour supervision and treatment for the applicant's parents.

Staff recommended approval subject to conditions and found the project categorically exempt from environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (Class 1). Environmental Health and Engineering and Surveying staff supported the permit subject to their conditions.

Planning staff described the temporary unit as positioned about 6 feet from the primary house and roughly 13.5 feet from the eastern property line and noted a 5-foot wooden fence along that property line. The applicant, John Knight, confirmed he had reviewed and accepted the conditions of approval.

Because the county received a public comment in support, the zoning administrator did not waive the 10-day appeal period; the decision will become final if no appeal is filed within that window. The hearing officer noted standard appeal procedures and an appeal filing fee if an appeal is submitted.
