It's the time that I have to have people on‑site that I'm trying to be reimbursed," a project staff member told the board, explaining the request was to cover extra staffing for an additional roughly five months needed to finish pool infill, the gymnastics area and other late tasks.
The board heard a progress update showing continued mechanical, electrical and plumbing work, installation of precast concrete bleachers, steel bar joists, metal decking and setting of a transformer. Staff said hydronic piping work is underway and that the chiller start‑up is scheduled for Sept. 12. Photos shown to the board included brick veneer rising with insulation and plumbing work in locker areas.
Officials described why the schedule is lengthening: some phases cannot begin until the existing pool work is complete, so phase sequencing adds roughly five months of overlap compared with initial estimates. The project representative said the district strategically bid the natatorium and reserved an amendment route to allow the pool infill and related work if earlier phases stayed within budget.
Board members asked about timing for ancillary items that have affected athletics and site open dates, including relocation of baseball scoreboards and drainage issues on the football field; staff said those items have been resolved or are being remediated before their respective seasons. The scoreboard relocation "is going to be relocated" and staff indicated it will not be charged to the district's cost, while drainage work is expected to be fixed after the season when crews can access problem areas.
The board subsequently voted to approve Contract Amendment No. 2 with Skillman Corporation. The meeting record shows a motion, a second and a unanimous voice vote; individual vote tallies and the amendment dollar amount were not specified in the discussion.
