The Monte Vista City Council voted Sept. 4 to approve payment of $38,515.15 for three simulators for the city's new golf-course multi-use building.
"I'm asking for your approval to purchase and make payment for the 3 simulators in the amount of $38,515.50 as part of the project," Judy, a city staff member, told the council. She said two vendors provided quotes and that Indoor Golf Outlet's price was substantially lower than the other vendor.
Judy described the purchase as two golf simulators and one multi-sport simulator that supports roughly 38 different activities (everything from baseball and soccer to disc golf and family arcade-style games). She said the facility will include three bays: one dedicated to golf, one combining golf and multi-sport use, and a third bay left for other recreation such as a pool table or darts.
Council members moved and seconded the payment approval; the motion carried. The council and staff discussed the construction timeline: the building is in the sheetrock stage with metal ceilings and insulation in place. Staff said a soft opening for invited guests had been targeted for Nov. 1 but is now more likely Dec. 1; an opening to the public could follow as early as Feb. 1, depending on finishing work and systems for online reservations.
Staff also said the project has used some contingency funds and that the team is seeking additional financing from foundations and other sources to cover unanticipated items such as new fencing. No additional city appropriation was reported at the meeting.
