Superintendent Owens on Sept. 24 announced the appointment of Gustavo Cervantes Vargas as assistant principal of Centennial Middle School.
Owens said Vargas brings more than a decade of experience as a dual-language educator, program coordinator and instructional leader, most recently serving as k–8 dual-language program coordinator at Loa Huber Park in the Beaverton School District. Vargas holds a B.A. in liberal studies from Portland State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Lewis & Clark College.
In brief remarks to the board, Vargas thanked the superintendent and the board and said he looked forward to serving the school community and invited board members to visit the school for a walkthrough to see changes the staff have made.
The announcement was included in the board’s introductory reports; no formal personnel motion or vote was recorded in the work-session transcript.
