The Cultural Arts Commission selected an alternate utility box in District 1 for a planned public-art wrap after staff found the originally assigned box had already been wrapped.
Jack, a city staff member, told commissioners that one of the five utility boxes previously assigned for district wraps was already wrapped in a koi design in 2021 and therefore unavailable. He presented three alternate District 1 locations for the commission to choose from and described visibility and preparation needs for each.
Commissioners discussed the three candidate sites and favored option B for its visibility and condition. The commission moved and approved a motion to assign the remaining artwork โ a bicycling-themed wrap by Jean Viazs โ to Box B.
The staff direction was to proceed with placement of the Jean Viazs wrap on the selected box and to bring the administrative request to City Council for final approval of the relocation and installation. Commissioners noted that additional prep work may be required depending on the box condition.
