Bannock County approves disposal plan for surplus parts and reassigns bike trailer to shared pool

Bannock County commissioners approved a plan to clear long-standing inventory, donate or salvage items when appropriate, and reassign a rarely used enclosed trailer to a shared departmental pool on Sept. 23.
Public works staff presented a list of surplus items and parts that have sat in county storage for years. The items included spare heavy-equipment parts (bucket tips, corner guards), unused public-access signs, and other components purchased for past projects. Staff proposed donation where agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service or Idaho Fish and Game would accept items, salvaging metal parts for recycling where feasible, and auctioning items that retain resale value.
A county official proposed reallocating the mosquito-fighting bike trailer (an enclosed, roughly 20-foot trailer) to county departments for shared use rather than leaving it idle. Commissioners suggested checking operational needs with Department of Parks (Scott), Sheriff’s Office, and county maintenance; the board instructed staff to make the trailer a “pool trailer” and advertise availability to departments.
The board moved to approve disposal, salvage and donation steps as discussed and authorized auction where items cannot be reused. The motion passed by voice vote; individual roll-call votes were not recorded.
