Street superintendent reports work on ditches, ramps, event blocks and Votec driveway repair

Buddy Glenn, the city’s street superintendent, updated the council on recent and planned Public Works activities, including ditch clearing, wheelchair ramp installation, sidewalk work and coordination with contractors on driveway repairs.
Glenn said crews cleared silted ditches, completed four wheelchair ramps and are preparing an additional ramp on Southeast Ninth Street in advance of a downtown event (the city is adding five more block closures, bringing its event-capacity block total to 22). He said the department will install roughly 200 feet of sidewalk running from the recreation center to the school parking lot; the school will place a ramp on the school side to complete the connection. Weather and rain currently limit progress.
Glenn reported a fallen tree at Southwest Third and Taylor that crews removed, and that the department installed a “no left turn” sign at Graham and Hogan because drivers were turning the wrong way onto a one-way street. He also described work with contractors at the new Votec building, where a poured entry had a six-inch lip; the contractor agreed to saw and regrade the poured entry at no charge so the water flow will match the existing roadway. The work will be verified after the concrete is finished.
Glenn said the department received its new FCC license and posted a copy at the shop. He closed by asking for questions and noting crews will prioritize sidewalk and drainage work as weather allows.
