Daggett County construction projects progress; community center change orders remain pending

Daggett County Municipal Building Authority members heard progress reports Sept. 23 on two county construction projects and were told change orders for the county Health Business and Community Center remain under review.

The Authority received an update on the Water Treatment Plant project that work is advancing and that crews are ready to put the roof on, with the project "ready to put the roof on," according to an authority member speaking during issue updates. The member said the structure’s skeleton is in place and described the immediate next work as weather-dependent.

Members also discussed the Daggett County Health Business and Community Center. Construction work is under way: crews have poured about half the foundation walls and are finishing forms on the remainder, and the second half of the foundation walls and the basement floor were reported to be scheduled for pouring this week. Site utilities work remains active; authority members said storm sewer and sanitary connections must be relocated for the sewer tie-in.

Jack Pierce, a staff member handling policy and legislation items for the Authority, said there are outstanding questions on change order No. 2 and change order No. 3 for the community center project and that those items were being addressed but not yet resolved. "I know that there's been some — there were some questions on change order number 2 and number 3 that, I believe are being addressed, but I'm not aware that they've been fully addressed at this point," Pierce said.

A staff member identified in the meeting as Jesse was cited as the person working with contractors and engineers to resolve the remaining change-order issues. Authority members said the two change orders are being negotiated between the subcontractor, the prime contractor, and the engineering firm; no change orders were approved at the meeting.

Members noted a standing construction coordination meeting for the Health Business and Community Center is scheduled next week on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. to address construction issues as they arise. The Authority did not take formal action on any change orders at the Sept. 23 meeting.

The progress updates concluded with thanks to staff coordinating between the contractor and engineers and with the Authority adjourning shortly after the construction updates.
