Road department reports paving progress, salt shed and shop move updates

County road staff provided a project update covering recently completed paving, upcoming micro-surfacing and coordination needed for railroad-track tie-ins, progress on a new salt shed and preparations for moving shop operations.
The county’s main-line paving finished recently, with remaining work including intersection tie-ins and approaches at railroad crossings that require railroad flaggers and a coordinated mill-and-pave operation, staff said. “The railroad tracks is the other main... they need to bring in a mill and a paver all on the same day and do 1 lane at a time all on the same day with railroad flaggers on-site,” staff said.
Nut graf: Road staff described near-term follow-up tasks and scheduling uncertainties. The county also reported the salt shed roof is installed, siding work is progressing, and staff hope to occupy the new shop before winter to support snow removal operations.
Staff said shouldering is underway, painting and rumble strip work remains pending micro-surfacing, and temporary ramps are requested at some driveways while paving crews complete work. The county is in the closing process on the sale of certain properties; abstracts have been ordered and staff expect settlement paperwork to control disbursement of earnest money.
A bridge project (location: near 60th and 410, south of Lawrence Park) was described as being expanded to a 14-by-12 structure to handle higher water flow; staff said they will schedule cranes and box-kit installation when the site dewaters.
Staff also updated supervisors on yard planning at the new shop site, including locating a gravel pile west of the salt shed and storage arrangements for materials and equipment. The salt shed roof was reported complete and interior planking and siding work is underway.
