Board adopts Mosquito Management Services FY2026 certified budget and work plan

The Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners approved the Mosquito Management Services fiscal year 2026 certified budget and authorized the chair to sign the certified budget form for submittal to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services on Sept. 24.
County staff told the board that each mosquito control district must submit a certified budget to the state; the certified budget serves as the district’s operating and fiscal guide. Staff noted the adopted FY2026 detailed work plan budget for arthropod control must be submitted by Sept. 30, 2025, to be considered for a state grant.
Commissioner Mast moved to approve the certified budget; Commissioner Smith seconded. The board voted by voice and the motion passed with all commissioners present voting aye. The board then approved the Mosquito Management Services adopted FY2026 detailed work plan budget for arthropod control and authorized the chair to execute the form for submittal to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; the second motion was moved by Smith, seconded by Mast, and passed by voice vote.
No public comments were offered on the mosquito management items during the hearing.
Staff will submit the certified budget and the detailed work plan budget to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as required for grant consideration and regulatory compliance.
