City wins $2.6 million grant for shared‑use path from Ranger Station to Brewer; shared‑use updates and Dante work progress reported

The Sedona City Council received updates on the city’s shared‑use path network on Sept. 23 and learned the city secured a $2.6 million grant for a Ranger Station Park to Brewer Road shared‑use path project.
Sandy Phillips (assistant director and assistant city engineer) told council the city is approaching 11 miles of shared‑use paths and that the contractor working on Dante shared‑use improvements had a slow start but will resume work next week. Phillips said some of the shared‑use path segments are complex because they are infill projects that require coordination with utilities and other infrastructure.
Grant award: Phillips said the new grant award provides approximately $2.6 million in federal/state funding with a local match of roughly 5.7% and that staff will bring an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) to council for signature so the project can move into construction in spring of the following year. Staff indicated NEPA and other grant requirements had been completed as part of the award process.
Coffee Pot and other connections: Staff also reported design work on Coffee Pot and noted the project’s purpose is to create connections among Thunder Mountain, commercial properties and the broader shared‑use network. Staff emphasized ongoing outreach with property managers and neighbors where projects will be built.
Next steps: staff will return with an IGA for the $2.6 million grant, resume Dante segment work next week and continue outreach and construction planning. The Ranger‑to‑Brewer project will be included in the FY27 pipeline and construction planning once the IGA is executed.
