BCDC to consider Magnolia Theater funding request at potential Nov. 4 special meeting; applicant unavailable Oct. 28

The Bee Cave Community Development Corporation discussed a potential funding request from the Magnolia Theater and possible scheduling changes Sept. 23.
Staff told the board the applicant was not available for the regularly scheduled Oct. 28 meeting but is available Nov. 4. The board discussed canceling the Oct. 28 meeting and holding a special meeting Nov. 4 to hear the applicant. President Kevin Hite said he preferred waiting for full board input but noted it would be unfair to schedule a hearing when the applicant is unavailable. Directors indicated a preference to proceed when a quorum is available and to circulate application materials to absent directors in advance so they can provide input.
Staff said the request will likely include an ask for funding support and that the amount is expected to be “not insubstantial.” A board member requested a year-to-year financial breakdown of the theater’s past performance and a projection for next year from the applicant (referred to in discussion as Andrew). Directors also discussed the possibility of the city or EDC purchasing capital items (for example, staging materials or microphones) so recurring costs could be reduced in future years; staff said logistics and ownership terms would need further work.
No funding decision was made Sept. 23. The board directed staff to check directors’ availability, circulate application materials in advance, and invite the applicant for a Nov. 4 meeting if a quorum of directors is available. Staff asked directors who cannot attend to provide comments to Chelsea in advance so their viewpoints can be considered.
