Mustafa, Director of Public Services, told the staff agenda review workshop the grant would help fund a project identified in the city’s landscape master plan: rejuvenating medians from Rock Island to State Road 441 on Commercial Boulevard. The scope includes landscape plantings, irrigation and pumps, shrub beds and new brick pavers to match the city's updated color pattern. Mustafa said the project cost estimate is $371,000 and DOT would provide $100,000 toward that total; the remaining funds would be the city’s match.
City Manager (name not specified) asked whether the work would affect the turnpike exchange; Mustafa said it will change some landscape and the median pavers there. Staff is seeking commission authorization to apply for the DOT matching grant; formal approval will be on the forthcoming commission agenda.
