MSD of Martinsville’s new elementary school approved with onsite stormwater storage to limit runoff to neighboring developments

Morton County drainage staff told the board on Sept. 2 that the Metropolitan School District (MSD) of Martinsville’s new elementary school has received final approval and that its stormwater plan largely stores runoff on-site.
Staff said a 12-inch corrugated metal pipe under Centennial Road will be part of outlet works, and that the project’s design sends most water to the east and retains it on the school site. According to the presentation, roughly 22 acres of contributing area were initially directed west; staff said that was reduced to "about a quarter" that will flow to the west. The presentation did not make clear whether “about a quarter” meant a quarter acre or a quarter of the previously directed acreage.
Staff asked board members to direct callers with questions to the drainage office so staff can provide the site plans. The board said it will prepare a letter and some hard copies of explanatory materials for residents who call.
Staff emphasized that the portions of runoff directed east will be released according to the county’s stormwater specifications and that the reduction will, in staff’s words, limit additional flow to the Valley View and Green Meadow developments.
