The Santa Cruz Planning Commission on Thursday reviewed a letter from the County of Santa Cruz saying it intends to purchase 420 and 440 May Avenue and continue using the buildings for government offices, including the county public defender’s office. Planning staff recommended the commission find the transfer consistent with the city General Plan if recommended conditions are met; the commission approved the staff recommendation by voice vote.
John Jezik, associate planner with the Planning and Community Development Department, told commissioners the department received the county’s letter on Aug. 18 and that state law gives the city 40 days from receipt to review the proposed acquisition for conformity with the General Plan.
