At the Sept. 22 meeting the Mount Pleasant City Commission appointed Leticia Powell to a full seat on the Zoning Board of Appeals to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Laura Risenan.
Manager Descent said the appointments committee reviewed available applicants and recommended elevating the current alternate, Leticia Powell, to the open seat to avoid delay in the board’s ability to hear pending matters. The motion to appoint Powell to a partial term expiring Dec. 31, 2027 was moved and seconded; the commission approved the appointment by voice vote.
Why it matters: the Zoning Board of Appeals hears variances and other land‑use petitions; filling the vacancy restores the board’s capacity to take up scheduled hearings and decisions.
Ending: staff said they would continue processing remaining applications and planned to return with a recommendation to fill any resulting alternate vacancy.
