The Town of Selma Planning Board voted unanimously to forward to the Town Council an ordinance amendment consolidating motor vehicle repair and vehicle sales standards under Article 5, Section 17-5-49 (Motor Vehicle Repair and Service).
Planning staff said the amendment groups standards that were previously scattered across the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). Items A and C were already in the UDO; staff added items B, D and E based on standards from other municipalities to provide clearer rules on vehicle sales displays, paving, landscaping, lighting and repair-work areas. Staff clarified that restrictions on permanent exterior storage described in the proposal apply to vehicle sales operations, not to vehicle repair shops working on customer vehicles inside a repair facility.
Board members asked for and received that clarification, then moved to recommend the consolidated amendment to the Town Council. The motion passed by unanimous vote.
