Tippecanoe County commissioners approve HVAC bids, road maintenance bond, WIC funding and youth-services grant extensions

Tippecanoe County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 15 approved a series of routine contracts and grants, including HVAC bid awards for county buildings, final acceptance and release of claims on a road parcel, acceptance of a $2,201,972.92 maintenance bond for a reconstruction project, permission to accept pending WIC funds, and extensions to two Youth Services grants through Dec. 31, 2026.
The actions, taken by voice vote during a short public meeting, affect county facilities, road maintenance and health and juvenile services funding.
The board voted to award bid package 1A for HVAC work to North Mechanical for $454,186 and bid package 1B for electrical work to Electric Plus for $34,000. The board clerk said the recommendation came in a letter from Tekton, which had reviewed the bids before the award motion was made.
On highway items, the board approved final acceptance and the release-of-claims document for Parcel 2 of the Yeager Road project; the release was described in the meeting as for $299,000. The board also approved adding United Consulting to the county's on-call consultant list for 2025, bringing the total available on-call consultants to six.
The board accepted a maintenance bond from Reath Riley Construction in the amount of $2,201,972.92 for the North Ninth Street/Burnett Road reconstruction project, identified in the meeting as the county's Community Crossings matching grant project for the year. The action was recorded as acceptance of the maintenance bond to close out the project.
Tracy, a Coroner's Office staff member, described a proposed clothing allowance policy for deputy coroners and said it would provide an allowance of $500 a year paid by reimbursement rather than through the county P-Card system. The board approved the policy.
Sharon Grama, WIC program representative, asked the board's permission for the WIC program to accept 2026 funds from the Indiana Department of Health "in approximately the amount of $1,398,709" pending a formal award letter. Grama said officials expect the award letter by Oct. 1 and asked that the board grant permission to accept the funds so they can be appropriated at a subsequent council meeting; the board granted that permission.
County staff said Youth Services and a contractor electronically signed amendments that extend two grants ' a behavioral health-care contract and an alternatives grant ' through Dec. 31, 2026. The amendments modify scopes to provide services for youth referred to diversion services by law enforcement and probation; the board approved both amended contracts.
Most motions were moved and seconded by commissioners and approved by voice vote; the meeting record does not list individual roll-call tallies for the votes. Reports from county offices, including central mail, the clerk of the circuit court, the county public library and the treasurer, were filed for public viewing. There was no public comment; the board adjourned after the routine business.
