Tippecanoe County Council adopts 2026 budget items, approves multiple ordinances and appropriations

At its Sept. meeting the Tippecanoe County Council accepted auditor and treasurer reports, approved a series of 2026 budget resolutions and ordinances, and approved several additional appropriations including funds for the sheriff and economic development legal fees.
The Tippecanoe County Council on Sept. 9 approved a package of 2026 budget measures, reapproved five ordinances on second and final reading, and passed several appropriations after hearing the county auditor's and treasurer's reports.
Council members began the meeting with the auditor's revenue and appropriation summary. Auditor Jennifer said the county started the year with $7,996,572 available, that the council had granted additional appropriations of $3,573,236, and that the month's appropriation request totaled $555,160; she said the county had $4,396,563 available for appropriation. Treasurer Dara reported an August ending balance of $188,587,325 and total interest earnings of $550,343.33; she said the general fund had received about $3.4 million in interest and that, with 67% of the year completed, revenues were at about 71% of projected totals.
The council then moved through formal approvals. Several routine resolutions were adopted by voice vote; multiple ordinances were reapproved on second and final reading by unanimous roll call. Members also reapproved the consent agenda.
