Monroe County Health Department reports rising COVID‑like visits and high wastewater signals; clinic offering updated vaccines

Ms. Kelly, joining via Teams for the Monroe County Health Department, told the commissioners on Sept. 4 that emergency department visits for COVID‑like illness had continued to increase as of Aug. 26 and that wastewater surveillance levels are “now high, and trending up,” though she added levels were still below prior peaks. The department is offering CDC‑recommended 2024–2025 COVID vaccine doses for those 12 and older and seasonal influenza shots at the public health clinic.
Ms. Kelly noted the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is scheduled to meet later in September and is expected to discuss new COVID vaccine recommendations. She said residents may call the public health clinic at (812) 353‑3244 for appointments or information.
Commissioners asked staff to keep them apprised when any new vaccine protocols are issued. No formal action was taken; the update was informational.
