The Kiel City Council recorded several routine but formal actions on ordinances, permits and administrative items.
The council reaffirmed ordinance 6-22 (amending municipal sign rules, chapter 17.33), a rewrite undertaken following a U.S. Supreme Court sign-content case and a subsequent legal requirement that zoning matters go before the planning commission; the council recorded the reaffirmation vote as 6-0. The mayor and staff explained that the planning commission held a public hearing, recommended the change unanimously, and that if the council reaffirmed the ordinance it would be published and become active after 30 days.
The council approved a fireworks display permit for the Kila Area School District’s homecoming event on Oct. 3, 2025 (licensed fireworks provider, certificate of insurance and safety plan were provided and reviewed by fire and police staff); vote recorded as carried. The council also scheduled citywide trick-or-treat for Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. (vote carried 6-0).
The council accepted generous donations totaling $400 (individual amounts $100, $50, $200 noted in packet) to be used for the fire department and approved routine receipts and disbursements and payment of bills. Motions were recorded as carried by roll calls.
At the start of the meeting the council approved minutes from the 08/26/2025 meeting by unanimous vote.
